Batch Process Video Mockups — Multiple Scenes & Multiple Smart Objects
This tutorial shows you how to batch process video mockups across multiple scenes and multiple smart objects using the Bulk Mockup plugin for Photoshop. You'll learn how to create consistent MP4 video exports perfect for Etsy listings, social media, and print-on-demand products.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have:
Bulk Mockup plugin installed
A Photoshop template with timeline and smart objects layers (like video mockup templates from Etsy)
Your design files prepared and ready to insert
This tutorial uses a 3-scene wall art frame template with 9 smart objects (3 frames per scene). The same workflow applies to any multi-scene video template.
Step 1: Enable the Photoshop Timeline
Open your video mockup template in Photoshop and enable the Timeline feature:
Go to Window > Timeline in the top menu
The Timeline panel will appear at the bottom of your screen
You'll see multiple scene groups (e.g., Scene 1, Scene 2, Scene 3)
Move the playhead to preview different scenes and verify your template structure
The Timeline shows you how your video mockup is structured across multiple scenes. Each scene group contains different frames or angles of your product.

Step 2: Check That Smart Objects Are Unlinked
To determine the next step, check, if each smart object are independent (unlinked) or linked. Here's how to verify:
Double-click one smart object layer to open it (or right click and choose edit content)
Make a noticeable change (add a bright color or shape)
Save and close the smart object (File > Save, then close the tab)
Check the other smart object layers in your template
Result:
If other layers did NOT change — your smart objects are unlinked ✅ (follow the next step)
If other layers changed automatically — they're linked ❌ (follow this video tutorial)

Step 3: Rename Smart Object Layers
Rename each smart object layer with simple numbers that match your folder structure:
In the Layers panel, locate all smart object layers across your scenes
Rename them sequentially: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
Make sure each layer has a unique number
The numbering should follow the order you want designs to appear
For a 3-scene template with 3 frames each, you'll have 9 layers total. Name them exactly as they appear in your scenes (e.g., left frame = 1, 4, 7; center = 2, 5, 8; right = 3, 6, 9).

Step 4: Set Up Your Design Folder Structure
Create a folder structure that matches your layer names exactly:
Create a main folder called designs on your computer
Inside the designs folder, create numbered subfolders: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
Place your design files in the appropriate numbered folders
For frames that should show the same design across scenes, place the same artwork in the corresponding folders (e.g., if left frames are 1, 4, 7 — put the same design in folders 1, 4, and 7)
Example folder structure:
designs/
├── 1/ (left frame designs)
│ ├── a_design1.png
│ └── b_design2.png
├── 2/ (center frame designs)
│ ├── a_design1.png
│ └── b_design2.png
├── 3/ (right frame designs)
│ ├── a_design1.png
│ └── b_design2.png
├── 4/ (left frame - same as folder 1)
├── 5/ (center frame - same as folder 2)
├── 6/ (right frame - same as folder 3)
├── 7/ (left frame - same as folder 1)
├── 8/ (center frame - same as folder 2)
└── 9/ (right frame - same as folder 3)Rename your files alphabetically (a_, b_, c_) to control processing order. Bulk Mockup processes files alphabetically. Use Advanced Bulk Renamer to rename multiple files quickly.
Avoid special characters in filenames (like &, %, #). Use only letters, numbers, underscores, and hyphens to prevent errors.

Step 5: Configure MP4 Export Settings (One-Time Setup)
Before running the batch process, you need to capture your custom MP4 export settings:
In Photoshop, open your template file, then go to Plugins > Bulk Mockup > Settings
Navigate to the Export tab
Under Export Format, select MP4
Then under saving options choose MP4
Then Choose Custom settings
Check all the settings in the dialog, configure export settings (document size, frame rate, etc.) if you want to or else keep it to default settings.
Click the render video button to render a sample video with your template still open.
Complete the render once — Bulk Mockup will save these settings for the batch processing
This step is required. If you skip the custom settings capture, the MP4 export will fail during batch processing.

Step 6: Start the Batch Process
Now you're ready to batch process your video mockups:
Open Bulk Mockup: Plugins > Bulk Mockup
Select your video mockup PSD template file
Select your main designs folder (the one containing all numbered subfolders)
Enable "Process Multiple Smart Objects"
Set export format to MP4
Choose your export folder location
Click Start Generating
Bulk Mockup will now:
Process each set of designs alphabetically
Replace all 9 smart objects with designs from the corresponding numbered folders
Render MP4 videos for each design set
Save numbered video files (1.mp4, 2.mp4, etc.) to your export folder
The plugin shows real-time progress as it generates each video. For 2 videos with 9 smart objects each, processing takes just a few minutes depending on your computer's performance.
📺 See results in the video: 10:10
Step 7: Verify Your Exported Videos
After the batch completes:
Navigate to your export folder
Play each MP4 video to verify the output
Check that designs appear consistently across all scenes
Confirm that each frame shows the correct artwork
Your video mockups are now ready to upload to Etsy, social media, or your print-on-demand platform!

Troubleshooting Common Issues
All designs look the same
Problem: Smart objects are linked.
Solution: Go back to Step 2 and recreate smart objects independently, then convert each to a new smart object.
Export fails or shows errors
Problem: Filenames contain special characters or MP4 settings weren't captured.
Solution: Rename files using only letters, numbers, and underscores. Complete Step 5 to capture custom MP4 settings with your template open.
Designs don't match across scenes
Problem: Folder structure doesn't match layer names, or wrong files in folders.
Solution: Verify folder names exactly match layer names (1-9). For frames that should match across scenes, ensure the same design files are in the corresponding folders.
Processing order is wrong
Problem: Files aren't alphabetically named.
Solution: Rename files with alphabetical prefixes (a_, b_, c_) using Advance Bulk Renamer.
