How to Organize Exports with Export Folder Settings

This guide shows you how to organize your exported mockups using the Export Folder Settings feature in Bulk Mockup. You'll learn how to control whether your mockups are saved in one folder or automatically organized into subfolders.

What You'll Learn

The Export Folder Settings feature gives you three ways to organize your mockup exports:

  • All in Export Folder - Save all mockups in a single folder

  • PSD Mockup - Create subfolders organized by template name

  • Design File - Create subfolders organized by design/artwork name

These settings help you stay organized when generating dozens or hundreds of mockups at once. Choose the option that matches how you plan to use your exported files.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • Bulk Mockup plugin installed in Photoshop

  • A folder containing your PSD mockup templates

  • A folder containing your design files (artwork/images)

  • An export folder selected where mockups will be saved

Access Export Folder Settings

Follow these steps to find the export folder settings:

  1. Open the Bulk Mockup plugin in Photoshop

  2. Click the Settings tab at the top

  3. Click the Export sub-tab

  4. Click the Folders option

Watch this step in the video (0:09)

You'll see three radio button options under "Export to Sub-Folders." Only one option can be active at a time, indicated by a green highlight.

Option 1: All in Export Folder

This option saves all your mockups in a single, flat folder structure with no subfolders.

When to Use This

Choose this option when:

  • You're generating a small number of mockups (under 20)

  • You want to manually organize files later

  • You need all files easily accessible in one location

How It Works

  1. In Settings > Export > Folders, select All in Export Folder

  2. Go to the Main tab

  3. Click Start Generating

  4. All mockups will be saved directly in your export folder with combined naming (e.g., "Los Angeles gold_01 primary.jpg")

See the results in the video (2:28)

Example: If you have 5 templates and 6 designs, all 30 mockups will appear in one folder.

Option 2: PSD Mockup

This option creates subfolders named after each PSD template, with each subfolder containing all variations of that template.

When to Use This

Choose this option when:

  • You want to see all design variations for each template together

  • You're organising mockups by template style (primary, secondary, lifestyle, etc.)

  • You need to compare how different designs look in the same template

How It Works

  1. In Settings > Export > Folders, select PSD Mockup

  2. Go to the Main tab

  3. Click Start Generating

  4. Subfolders will be created using your template names (e.g., "01 primary/", "02 secondary/", "03 lifestyle/")

  5. Each subfolder contains all design variations for that template

See the results in the video (3:37)

Example: A folder named "01 primary" will contain 6 mockups (one for each design file), all using the "01 primary" template.

Option 3: Design File

This option creates subfolders named after each design/artwork file, with each subfolder containing all template variations of that design.

When to Use This

Choose this option when:

  • You want to see all template variations for each design together

  • You're organising mockups by product, client, or design name

  • You need to deliver complete sets of mockups per design

How It Works

  1. In Settings > Export > Folders, select Design File

  2. Go to the Main tab

  3. Click Start Generating

  4. Subfolders will be created using your design file names (e.g., "Los Angeles gold/", "New York silver/", "Chicago white/")

  5. Each subfolder contains all template variations for that design

See the results in the video (4:50)

Example: A folder named "Los Angeles gold" will contain 5 mockups (one for each template), all featuring the "Los Angeles gold" design.

File Naming Best Practices

To avoid duplicate filenames and ensure unique file identification, configure your naming settings:

  1. Go to Settings > Export > Naming tab

  2. Select at least 2 unique naming parameters

  3. Recommended combination: Design File Name + Template Name

If you only use "Design File Name" in your naming settings, files may have duplicate names when using the "PSD Mockup" subfolder option. Always include both design and template names for unique identification.

This ensures files are named like "Los Angeles gold_01 primary.jpg" which clearly identifies both the design and the template used.

Testing Different Options

You can easily test different export options to see which works best for your workflow:

  1. Generate your mockups using one option

  2. Review the exported folder structure

  3. If needed, delete the exported files

  4. Switch to a different Export Folder Setting option

  5. Generate again to compare the organisation

The generation process completes in seconds, even for 30+ mockups, so you can experiment freely to find your preferred organisation method.
