Batch Watermark – How to Add Watermarks to Multiple Photos Automatically

Learn how to automatically add watermarks to multiple photos in Photoshop. This tutorial covers three effective methods to batch watermark your images, ensuring consistent sizing and placement across all photos.

Method 1: Using Photoshop Actions and Batch Processing

This method uses Photoshop's built-in Actions and Batch features to automate watermarking across multiple images.

Step 1: Create a New Action

  1. Drag one of your images into Photoshop to open it

  2. Open the Actions panel (Window > Actions)

  3. Click the folder icon to create a new action set and name it "Batch"

  4. Click the "Create new action" button (+ icon) and name it "Watermark"

  5. Click Record to start recording your action

See results in the video: 0:38 - 1:15

Step 2: Record the Watermark Process

  1. Go to File > Place Embedded and select your logo file

  2. Position and resize the watermark to your desired location (e.g., top-left corner)

  3. Press Enter to confirm the placement

  4. Adjust the watermark layer opacity to 60% (or your preferred transparency)

  5. Go to File > Export > Export As and choose JPEG format

  6. Select your Export folder as the destination

  7. Set quality to maximum (100%)

  8. Click Export

  9. Stop recording the action by clicking the Stop button in the Actions panel

See results in the video: 1:15 - 3:37

Make sure to position your watermark carefully during recording, as this exact placement will be applied to all your photos.

Step 3: Run the Batch Process

  1. Go to File > Automate > Batch

  2. Select the "Watermark" action from your "Batch" set

  3. Choose your Source folder containing all the images you want to watermark

  4. Set the Destination to your Export folder

  5. Enable "Override Action 'Save As' Commands"

  6. Enable "Suppress File Open Options Dialogs"

  7. Click OK to start the batch process

See results in the video: 3:37

Photoshop will now automatically apply your watermark to all images in the source folder and save them to your export folder!

Common Issue: Inconsistent Watermark Sizing

If you're working with photos of different resolutions, you may notice the watermark appears at different sizes—tiny on some images and oversized on others. This happens because the Action records a fixed pixel size for the watermark.

See issue explained in the video: 5:35 - 6:03

To fix this, use one of the Smart Object methods below for consistent, scalable watermarks.

Bonus: Repeating Pattern Watermark

For a tiled watermark effect across your entire image:

  1. Open your logo file in Photoshop

  2. Go to Edit > Define Pattern and name it (e.g., "Logo Pattern")

  3. Open your image and create a new layer

  4. Go to Layer > Layer Style > Pattern Overlay

  5. Select your logo pattern from the pattern picker

  6. Adjust the Scale, Angle, and Opacity to your preference

See results in the video: 6:06 - 8:19

This method creates a reusable template that automatically scales your watermark proportionally to any image size.

Step 1: Create the Watermark Template

  1. Create a new Photoshop file (File > New) with dimensions matching your photo aspect ratio (e.g., 6000 x 9000 pixels for 2:3 ratio)

  2. Go to File > Place Embedded and add your logo

  3. Position and resize the logo to your desired placement and size

  4. Create a new shape layer using the Rectangle Tool (1800 x 2700 pixels works well)

  5. Fill the shape with any color and set opacity to 0%

  6. Select both the logo layer and the shape layer

  7. Right-click and choose "Convert to Smart Object"

  8. Name the Smart Object layer (e.g., "watermark")

  9. Rasterize any extra layers

  10. Save the file as a PSD template (e.g., "watermark_light.psd")

See results in the video: 8:19 - 12:34

Step 2: Create a Dark Variant (Optional)

  1. Duplicate your watermark template file

  2. Add a Black Color Fill adjustment layer

  3. Save as a new template (e.g., "watermark_dark.psd")

See results in the video: 12:34

Smart Object templates automatically scale your watermark proportionally, solving the inconsistent sizing issue across different photo resolutions.
